Podcast: MMXI- Anthems 2011 Volume 1

As part of my annual collection of end of year house hits I am happy to present MMXI: ANTHEMS 2011 VOL 1.

There is no need to further introduce these tunes that rocked my dance floor in 2011. This choice is based on the tracks I liked to play as opposed to what were the biggest hits, some of which I felt obliged to play to balance the educator/Entertainer aspect of DJing. This is VOLUME 1, with 25 tracks, just over two hours of music.

TOP 50 TUNES 0F 2011

Deciding what would be my top 50 tunes of 2011 was no easy task. Browsing through hundred of tracks to dwindle them down to 50 was an exercise of much decision making. Do I include ‘big hits’ or ‘what were truly my favourites’ or a combination of both?

The end decision was to place in my top 50 of 2011 the tracks that would keep me on the dance floor, my favourites…the tunes I enjoyed playing. This means a few of the big tunes of the year will be missing…those that I felt like I had a duty to play instead of what I wanted to play. That would include Stronger by Erik Morillo (couldn’t stand it!), Avicii’s ‘Levels’ and that shocking ‘Bromance’…ahh, what a horrible (but popular) track that was.

Instead I selected a great mix of grooves that best represented by DJ style, my yearly podcasts and tracks I would be happy to compile into a mix (no use listing a top 50 without putting it down into a podcast…is there!?…and that is coming soon) When I looked at the tracks selected I noticed a lot of remixes of older tracks, especially 1980′s tunes and two from Depeche Mode.  This cold be just a reflection of those who are now creating music were born in that era. Remixers like Bass Kleph, Noferini, TradeLove and Crazibiza were popping up on a regular basis and funky definitely made a return in a style I generally termed as nuFUNK. Deciding my top 50 was hard but placing them in order was not something I was willing to to do. Play one of these tunes and you will see me going off on the dance floor, hopefully, along with the rest of the floor. These tunes are the ones that shook, rocked ad made me sweat! Podcast: Live Sessions 2011 ‘Lo Profile’ (PlayTime Mix)

Recorded live at LoProfile’s sexy Friday night club PlayTime in late October. This mix best represents about half of my set.

As with all live mixes, it will include current anthems, new tracks and a few classics. This is typical of my style for LoProfile which attracts a very gAyLIST crowd of Soho Hipsters, muscle boys, clubbers, bisexuals, metrosexuals, girls ranging from the street wise Soho chick to the chic and onto the ‘just stepped out of the office’ kind.

With the reinvention of Fridays, it’s has become on of the places to be seen. PlayTime features international pornstars who perform on a open bed and later will dance on the podiums for the crowd.

Although my main objective is to keep the dance floor pumping, which at times it was all hands to the air, with the more sexual feel of Playtime I also inject into my grooves not only a hip shaking soundtrack but one that would equally match some hip thrusting.

As with all Live Sessions, there is no track list, it’s about the set…so get get hip thrusting and enjoy the sound of PlayTime!

Podcast: PLAY 2011

Play 2011 is a collection of stomping brand  new (well at least 80%)  hot house tunes freshly squeezed from the MP3 press. I have also added a few current dance floor favourites and a few current essential house tracks in the mix.

This is fresh in the nuFunk, electro, uplifting and progressive style. To get the most out of PLAY, add a few friends and give it a spin. PLAY is better the second and third time around. By that time you will have gotten to know the hooks and feel for the ones that can really rock you.

miniPodcast: Rebel Rockers

BRENT NICHOLLS VS SYLVIA REBEL: REBEL ROCKERS- Inspired by my podcasts collaboration with independent club reviewer Disco Matt and by the words expressed by Sylvia Rebel in her www.seenqueen.com interview ‘Rebel With A Cause’…I now join forces with scene starlet Sylvia Rebel to present REBEL ROCKERS, a brand new mini-cast meeting of minds and musical tastes.

In her SeenQueen.com interview Sylvia revealed she wanted to start to DJ, so jumping the gun before she got behind the decks I was curious as to what her choice in music would be. Than REBEL ROCKERS was born.

On this collaboration Sylvia nominated about 15 tunes she currently loved, my job was to select 10 of those tracks, decide on which mix best suited the minicast and then mix it all together.

As in all collaborations, some of Sylvia’s choices would not have been mine and the remix which I selected may not be her ‘favourite version’…however for continuity as well as with the aim to create something which reflected both of our tastes…this demarcation worked perfectly.

When will Sylvia step behind the decks herself? In a way she already has. With computers, mixing is the easy part…selecting the grooves and deciding what goes with what to create an original musical soundtrack is where the talent lies, and both Sylvia and I have contributed equally in that part.

This mix reflects Sylvia’s taste in house music, however until we put her behind the decks will discover the full Sylvia experience. Rebel Rockers we have a sneak preview into what we can expect as Sylvia places the title ‘DJ’ before name….

PODCAST: LovePulse

Feel the rhythm, feel the beat, feel the pulse of the music! Promoting LoveChild’s move from Fire to the new gay super club Pulse I have created a special podcast of 18 pumping tracks covering most of the genres i am currently playing. This 1.5 hours of pure uplifting and chunked up club house that hits you in your funky bone…

Right from the start you will find your butt grooving with the tough, yet funky  Let’s Get This Thing Started by the Pizza Brothers hailing a new direction and a new home for the club that won Best Monthly Club in 2010 at the www.seenqueen.com club poll. The tracks that follow maintain the pace and feel pumping your groove thing until  we hit some fantastic vocal fuelled track including my current favourite The Edge Of The Earth by Richard Dinsdale. This Producer/remixer has easily become one to watch with a funky and uplifting sound that is spearheading it’s way into the clubs. With Sykes & Sugarstarr cover of the Rolling Stones No Satisfaction hitting your ear drums, you will start to move like Jagger before entering the more old skool and edgier feel with the fantastic remake of My House. Now what would one of my podcasts be without a disco dip into the funky pool and there are a few tracks that do just that ooozing Hed Kandy style including Alex Kenji’s soon to be massive Emotion and another Richard Dinsdale track DJ You Got My Love. miniCAST: Hot Wired 2011 ‘Wired’ pre-party mix

Hot Wired is London’s biggest underground leather party that debuted on the London scene in 2010. A collaboration between Hard On & Rut, this miniCast is a 10 track selection of some of the styles and tunes I will be playing at this super sexy event.

Podcast: Disco Matt’s Summer Scorchers 2011

The third in the collaboration between scene party boy Disco Matt and yours truly, Brent Nicholls…this mix has been the blender for nearly a month with one track or another sabotaging it’s completion.

After a reshuffle of tracks, adding and subtracting, re-adding and creating an epic worthy of a Ben Hur movie, the final platters that matter have been laid down to rest and here is the Third Podcasts in the Disco Matt series.

Disco Matt says about this mix….”DM’s “Summer Scorchers” podcast, the wait is almost over – Well, just like Disco Matt’s very existence, the production of the latest podcast in the emerging series of musical collaborations between London’s original party boy and scene favourite D.J. Brent Nicholls, has been something of a roller-coaster ride, one track continuing to send the mix off the rails. However, with the most anticipated marriage of musical minds since Benny & Bjorn having successfully cleared a counselling session, the eagerly awaited ten track triumph that that looks set to zoom up the download charts, “Summer Scorchers”, is now in the final mix pressing and will be ready for release within the next 48 hours. …” and here it is!

Podcasts: Industri Last Dance Volume 1 & 2

Recorded live at Industri on the night of it’s last dance, this is a live mix featuring Brent Nicholls & Paul Heron playing back to back.

Although there are some classic tunes on here giving a nod to the past there are also plenty of new material that looks to the future.

Industri was a social soiree that was born at Barcode Vauxhall as a collaboration between BCV & Brent Nicholls, Paul Heron & Minty. It essentially introduced the Soho styled soiree to the Vauxhall clubbing centre. Just before it’s third birthday Industri moved to Barcode Soho and reinvented itself in the heart of this thriving social enviroment.

When it was announced that Barcode Soho was to close, Industri too thought it was time to call it quits.

This podcasts is one of two parts that pays tribute to a night that created new friends, forged great relationships and gave London a unqiue soiree experience.

Podcast: Groove Is In The Arse

Part two of the Groove Is In Podcast….this time baby it sphincter clenching and anal pumping ARSE MUSIC!

Groove Is In The Arse heads  down a funky, chunky and very much in the arse shaking territory type of sound. More an extension that than anything else of  ‘Groove Is I n The Heart’, this mix is a little tougher in parts with and edgier feel but still remains in the funkier realm. Yet again there are some remarkable remakes on here…it seems as I get older more and more tracks being redone. With a couple of bootlegs, some progressive tunes and lots of sexy beats, ‘Groove Is In The Arse’ is where it will hit you. The question is, are you a Heart or Arse man?
