Podcast- MMX VOLUME 2: ANTHEMS 2010 (July-Dec)

Welcome to the annual collection of the biggest hits of 2010 volume 2. Theses tunes moved me, and you, this year be it in a bar, club or fetish venue. Uplifting, inspiring, funky, groovy, chunky and hot are a few words to describe this collection of tracks totalling 50 in all. It was a little difficult to choose my favourite 50 tracks but here it is!

VOLUME TWO continues where Volume 1 leaves off except it opens with a more disco feel as a lot of 70’s tracks like Freak Out, Lets All Chant and Funky Town were all given a new lease of life in the later part of the year. This mix also features a lot of newer tracks as many of them became immediate favourites of mine and placed, ready to launch into the new year.

Podcast: INDUSTRI 2010- Gotta Move

Launched in January 2008 at Barcode Vauxhall , Industri was intended to be a social soiree aimed at scene clubbers, gogos, off duty DJs and the like with Queen of the London scene Minty as host. Alongside Minty both myself, Brent Nicholls, and Paul Heron played exclusive back 2 back sets.

Industri 2010 Gotta Move

Industri 2010 Gotta Move

For me, Industri was the gig where I tested new tunes, played classics and tried out tracks that could have either crashed or ignited a main dance floor. Over the years Industri gained regulars, had its up and downs and hosted many memorable and at times wild parties. It launched DJs, Gogos and was the drop off spot for a lot of the Vauxhall clubbers. Of course over time, Industri has changed and after nearly 3 years we decided it need a bit of new direction….and that was to move to BCV sister club Barcode Soho and from a Thursday to a Wednesday night. That’s right, Soho is about to get a bit of Industri style.

In honour of this next chapter in the Industri story, I have compiled a 12 track podcast collecting together a mix of tracks across several genres that best represents my Industri sound. From NuFunk to Tech House flavours, from Latin touches to disco dipped…this is music for moving and grooving.

Like the opening track says:

“Gotta make a move to a, Town that’s right for me, Town to keep me movin’, Keep me groovin’ with some energy,
Well, I talk about it, Talk about it, Talk about it, Talk about it, Talk about, Talk about, Talk about movin,
Gotta move on, Gotta move on, Gotta move on,
Won’t you take me to….Industri……”

Review: TTD The Opening Night

TTD: Pussy was the choice of 'energy drink'

TTD: Pussy was the choice of 'energy drink'

When Billy Richards first asked me to get involved with TTD I was excited about a new T’Dance and clubbing brand. He was a new promoter, so it was as fresh for him as TTD was to me.

Unfortunately he allocated me the first 4pm-6pm slot. I knew this was going to be a quiet one, so with Pal and fellow disco whore DISCO MATT…I opened the first TTD to hit London.

TTD London promised to shake up Sundays, and at the start it seemed Sundays had shaken up TTD.

Starting at 4pm, TTD had to compete with horrible weather and a tube strike…the main crowd did not turn up until the sun decided to go down, and with what was a shaky start TTD turned it around to create a party that was busy, but not packed, full with a mix of assorted gay tribes. Bears, fetish, clubbers, chavs, hunks, gAylisters and a handful of cowboys (turning up from Les johnson return of the Cowboy party) …it all help create an event that was fun, friendly and reminiscent of early DTPM.

The venue was industrial with a minimalist approach to lighting. Its large spaces, high roof and concrete and steel ambience had many commenting on ‘how did we miss this venue’. Billy Richards, the promoter wanted a testosterone fuelled evening, and although it could have been busier, the crowd was perfect for such a t’dance. DJs Pagano, Brent Nicholls & Nick Tcherniak played a mix of tunes form disco inspired house, remixed classics, progressive, tribal and funky house. With the sweet smell of success…Billy has already planned the next event on Sunday 7th November, and another in December.

Below are two videos with a different vibe. The remix shows more of the gogos, while the original video gives you a broader vision of TTD.

Barcode Soho- Saturday Night Viral

Barcode Soho is one of the clubs/bars I work at regularly on a Saturday night about once a month. My next gig is Saturday 16th October from 10-1 in the downstairs club. I generally play a mish mash of genres from NuFunk House, chunky house, some Latin and at times good remixes of more commercial tunes by the likes of Beyonce or even Lady GaGa.

The bar has a laid back vibe and attracts aa good mix of guys form the muscle bound to the more down to earth. Being in Soho you also get the secretaries and off work gay guys…there is often funny tales of off beat request for RnB in the middle of a house set; but I do not expect these pedestrian gays and their friends to know better it often ends up on my Facebook status early in the morning as a funny anecdote of yet another inappropriate request.

Saying that there is enough eye candy to even dissolve the most inappropriate requests.

Closing at 1am, the club/bar is the perfect place to start a night of clubbing or to have an early night where one can wake up on Sunday without a hangover. The music I play needs to reflect this balance between those who are out for a drink and those who are out to party, henceforth the eclectic mix of tunes from the underground to the overground that you will hear at this bar.

The video viral you see was made by Andrew Harris, one of London’s better graphic artists.

NO AMERICANO

NO AMERICANO

NO AMERICANO

Now and again I like to create a specialist mix that showcases my diveristy and love for house music. NO AMERICANO is one of those mixes with a focus on Latin house, ethnic percussive vibes, jazz elements and foregin disco sprinkles. It has a taste for the summer and a yearning to be played while you spread yourself under the golden sun. The tunes vary greatly from the more credible percussive tracks to the more light hearted and uplifiting vocal tracks. All embrace the ethnic diversity that can be found in house music, and this is spearheaded by the Latin flavour.

Featured traccks include Soul Avengerz ‘Let The Trumpets Sound’, Dr kucho’s ‘El Mariachi’, Yolanda Be Cool massive hit ‘No Speak Americano’, no mistaningly Spanish influenced Cantina by the Starkillers and the pumping Melocoton by Dario Nunez. 19 in total!

AURAL: NuFunk House

Aural

Aural: NuFunk House

Join me with over and hour and a half of uplifting nuFUNK house drawing on the fresh sounds of summer. On this podcast I mix and merge the disco elements of funky house, the sexiness of progressive house, the dirtiness of electro house and the passion of Latin flavoured grooves and create an Aural landscape as we move through the variety of nuFUNK grooves. Feel the rhythm and let the music take control and enjoy the summery vibes.

Featured tracks include the ultra funky ‘Let The Bass Line Taken Control’ by Dr Kucho, the nuFunk sound of Funagenda vs Markl Knight on ‘Devil Walking’, Mike Candy’s anthemic ‘People Hold On’, the Latin-tastic ‘We No speak Americano’ by Yolanda Be Cool and the Mogwai remix of the classic ‘It just Won’t Do’ by Tim Deluxe.

LONDON GLOBAL DANCE FESTIVAL: The Vip Mix

LONDON GLOBAL DANCE FESTIVAL: VIP Mix

LONDON GLOBAL DANCE FESTIVAL: VIP Mix

In anticipation of the London Global Dance Festival I have created this special pre-party mix focusing on the tunes I would play for the White Party VIP reception.

As this reception is the opening of the main event, I have selected a wide range of nuFunk* House tunes. Starting definitely in the disco/funkier/soulful end of the spectrum, I gradually move towards a more progressive / tribal feel before pulling it back to a funkier house style and ending with a more clubbier and uplifting progressive vibe. I have drawn tracks from a wide cross section of genre looking for that nuFunk feel and included not only some of today’s biggest floor fillers, but also some older tracks that still enjoy a good floor response and a healthy dose of new and up and coming tunes.

There are two parts to this mix…..making nearly 3 hours of music!

*nuFunk is a term I have coined that is non genre specific, but instead a sound that I look for in all genres. It is reminscent of the funky house era, but only by style. When you give these mixes a listen you will feel the hip-gyrating, toe tapping, uplifting to the soul and accessibility of all the tracks that either otherwise could be called electro, progressive, tech or house. To best describe the vibe of nuFunk I would have to quote ‘ I love music, any kind of music, I love music, just as long as it’s groovin’….’. Get it?

Seen Queen Spring Sampler 2010

SeenQueen Spring Sampler 2010

SeenQueen Spring Sampler 2010

The Seen Queen Spring sampler is an exclusive promo mixed by DJ Brent Nicholls for www.SeenQueen.com. It features ten tracks that are predicted to become big tunes over the coming spring, some which will feature at the Miami Winter Music Conference. All of these tracks have featured in the Seen Queen’s music page Top 10 Jukebox.

Brent has intentionally selected track from a style he coins ‘Nu Funk House’…not a new genre but a noticeable ‘funking’ up of house music be it electro, progressive or tribal…and with funky house tracks returning back to their roots by being true to their disco influences.
