Special Podcast: ABBAMIX

It may be a strange for connection, but if it wasn’t for ABBA I may have never got into DJING. My love of ABBA fuelled my love for music and my passion to do more with it.

Being an Australian, ABBA is part of our countries history. It was us who went crazy for them when the rest of the world forgot them after WATERLOO. It was a country where 1 in 3 families had an ABBA album and at one time 5 out of 10 tracks in the top 10 were ABBA. Fernando spent 16 weeks at number one.

Ever since they have been a favourite on my iphone on the beach, when I am doing housework, to make me feel happy if I am down…

After hearing a mixcloud podcast by another DJ who sourced various ABBA remixes, most of them by fans…i thought I too would like to pay tribute to ABBA on this podcast.

ABBAMIX is 100% ABBA…no cover versions, except maybe one by Peter K with (Lay All Your) Love On Me. This was a house music take on ABBA’s ‘club tune’. The mix contains ABBA original recordings interspersed with various ‘fan-remixes’ and include a slightly messy but rather impressive version of the Visitors & a 2006 house remix of Waterloo in a speed garage style.

Perhaps one of the most important additions to this mix is the DMC MEGA MIX. Professionally done, this blends/cuts ABBA mixes together. Throughout the ABBAMIX you will blends, fast cuts, cut and paste, beat mixing and filters to create one continuos ABBAMIX. Party, listen or sing along…my aim was to offer the beloved ABBA in a different way not to distract from the genius of ABBA but to create a new twist. Over 1 hour of tunes, 12 distinct tracks covering 20 ABBA tunes in various ways.

Mixing ABBA is not easy. Beats drift, they weren’t made to be beat mixed…but at least I tried, and here it is.

I hope this can refresh your ABBA love as it did for me when I was making it.

PODCAST: I Rock, I Sweat, I Dance

I Rock, I Sweat I Dance does exactly what it says in the title. A collection of Spring favourites mixed with future Summer floor fillers and with a nod to nuFunk with the mix evolving to a more progressive, pumping and jumping club sound towards the end.

There are some great new tunes and a healthy dose of really hot remixes of house classics (the older i get the more and more frequent these appear!).

Hot tracks include the opening electro stomping ‘I Rock I Sweat’, the incredibly infectious disco stealing ‘Double Kross’ from Patrick Hagenaar (this really is 21st Century disco in all it’s mirrorball glory), Taito Tikaro’s amazing take on Yazoo’s ‘Situation’, the twisted head fuck ‘Animal Rights’ by Deadmu5 vs. Wolfgang Garter, Peter K’s & andrew M’s incredible interpreation of ABBA’s ‘Lay All Your Love On Me’ with ‘Love On Me’ and the trending Gramophonedzie with thier old jazz/blues sampling Out of My Head.

Variety is the spice of life…. and this podcast is alive!

Podcasts: Live Sessions @ Gigolo [Disco Pimp Mix]

When I was aked to bring my disco tunes to play at the new Thursday night Gigolo…I thought ‘what does he mean?’ Of course, what he meant was to bring nuFunk house, the term I have been using to describe a certain sound found across many genres that has been injecting the funk back into clubbing. ‘Finally’ they realise you play glamourous funky house you attract people of the same ilk…nuFunk and glamour were about to merge!

GIGOLO is the love child of scene phtographer and all round hunk David Hart who was formerly involved with Room Service.

David wanted to create a funky, social and friendly atmosphere in a central and well liked venue. Utilising his master of photography and vision he transformed the LoProfile venue into a Gigolo’s boudoir where one could easily bump for a buck. The music direction was simple…uplifting, funky, disco and groovy. Nothing ground breaking or underground…just something that was sexy and feel good. It fitted perfectly into the sound I call nuFunk…so I took a few disco dipped tracks, a dash of lavish vocals, more than a handful of pumping funk , sauced it up with some edgier tracks, aaded a few new ones right off the mp3 press and Disco Pimped Gigolo for nearly 2 hours… and here is the result…LIVE.

LIVE SESSIONS do not have track listings…so if you want to know the name of a groove it’s time for Shazam. Sit back, put your legs up and look deep into the eyes of the Gigolo as you are about to get your ass pimped with some nuFunk house.

Groove Is In The Arse heads  down a funky, chunky and very much in the arse shaking territory type of sound. More an extension that than anything else of  ‘Groove Is I n The Heart’, this mix is a little tougher in parts with and edgier feel but still remains in the funkier realm. Yet again there are some remarkable remakes on here…it seems as I get older more and more tracks being redone. Podcast: Music For Pimps, Hookers & Gogos

MUSIC FOR PIMPS, HOOKERS & GOGOS is a 100% fresh new tune podcast, made up of a collection of tracks that are shaking my world and fresh from the internet; with many set to be big winter (come spring) grooves. With the unusual and risqué podcast title the idea was to create a set of sexy tracks with ass pounding beats, yet still remain funky, accessible and most of all uplifting in my own style.

Each track tells its own story. Was it meant for the Pimps? The Hookers? The Gogos? Just the Pimps & the Hookers…or all three?

This podcasts is kind of Hard On meets Nu Funk; tough yet sensual, vocal yet credible, funky yet sexy and banging in all the right places. The question is, where does the groove strike you? Does it make you shake? Do you bump and grind? Are you waving your hands in the air like you just don’t care? Does it make it you want to rent your boy-f’s butt out to to hear it again? If it’s in your head, you’re a Pimp. Rocking your cock? You’re a Hooker. Hip thrusting…you’re a gogo. If you can’t feel it, then love, you’ re dead, get off the dance floor you’re taking up space!

The mix contains some punching remixes of classic tracks, beat enhanced progressive house, wicked bootlegs mash ups and some high flying and funk-me-up-the-arse disco dipped turbo charged house. 18 tracks, just over 1.5 hours.

Podcast- MMX VOLUME ONE: Anthems 2010 (Jan-Jun)

Welcome to the annual collection of the biggest hits of 2010. Theses tunes moved me and you this year be it in a bar, club or fetish venue. Uplifting, inspiring, funky, groovy, chunky and hot are a few words to describe this collection of tracks totalling 50 in all. It was a little difficult to choose my favourite 50 tracks but here it is!

2010 was the year of what I called NuFunk house where funky, disco and groovy was once more injected back into house music moving away from the more souless electronic sound and adding a bit of latin fusion and disco sparkle. NuFunk isn’t a genre but a sound recognisable across several genres and I took it upon myself to launch this onto the gay scene that was over run with progressive Spanish sounds that started to go the way funky house did (cheap vocals, plagiarised beats and a little bit G.A .Y).  NuFunk injected glamour, style and funkiness back into all genres of house music.

The movers and shakers of 2010 were definitely Danny Verde, Audio Jackers,  Riva Starr, Mark Knight & Funkagenda.

VOLUME ONE is a collection of tracks I first acquired between January and June 2010. Many of these became massive hits across many dance floors, while others are my personal favourites.
