Your Disco Needs You

The SeenQueen.com club poll is nearly upon us and quite a few of the clubs I work at are nominated.

Video: Lo Profile 12.11.2010

Rapidly becoming THE club to be at in Soho, Lo Profile has taken another step up the clubbing ladder with a renovation to dance floor and an installation of £25 000 worth of lights and lasers. The effect? Well see the video.

Lo Profile 3rd Birthday Fri 19.11.2010

Lo Profile 3rd Birthday Fri 19.11.2010

The new lighting has made a major impact on the club…every tune dropped be it a funky house disco dipped number or a sexy underground and dirty tribal groove, the lighting would match the mood enhancing the dance floor experience. Friday 12.11.2010 certainly felt like Lo Profile was more than just a bar with a dance floor, but a real club, such is the impact of the new lighting. And the crowd, well sexy boys, glammed up girls and other members of the gay tribes who turned up for a quick dance and a drink or for a warm up to a weekend that would most likely end Sunday afternoon.

All this in time for their third birthday, and what a way to celebrate with a spectacular light show over the main floor. So the question is…where did you learn to funk like that, boy?

Review: TTD The Opening Night

TTD: Pussy was the choice of 'energy drink'

TTD: Pussy was the choice of 'energy drink'

When Billy Richards first asked me to get involved with TTD I was excited about a new T’Dance and clubbing brand. He was a new promoter, so it was as fresh for him as TTD was to me.

Unfortunately he allocated me the first 4pm-6pm slot. I knew this was going to be a quiet one, so with Pal and fellow disco whore DISCO MATT…I opened the first TTD to hit London.

TTD London promised to shake up Sundays, and at the start it seemed Sundays had shaken up TTD.

Starting at 4pm, TTD had to compete with horrible weather and a tube strike…the main crowd did not turn up until the sun decided to go down, and with what was a shaky start TTD turned it around to create a party that was busy, but not packed, full with a mix of assorted gay tribes. Bears, fetish, clubbers, chavs, hunks, gAylisters and a handful of cowboys (turning up from Les johnson return of the Cowboy party) …it all help create an event that was fun, friendly and reminiscent of early DTPM.

The venue was industrial with a minimalist approach to lighting. Its large spaces, high roof and concrete and steel ambience had many commenting on ‘how did we miss this venue’. Billy Richards, the promoter wanted a testosterone fuelled evening, and although it could have been busier, the crowd was perfect for such a t’dance. DJs Pagano, Brent Nicholls & Nick Tcherniak played a mix of tunes form disco inspired house, remixed classics, progressive, tribal and funky house. With the sweet smell of success…Billy has already planned the next event on Sunday 7th November, and another in December.

Below are two videos with a different vibe. The remix shows more of the gogos, while the original video gives you a broader vision of TTD.

I recorded a special podcast for the event which can be downloaded and/or listened to here: TTD- WELCOME TO THE CLUB:  PODCAST

Review: The Week

The questions is should I really be reviewing the clubs I work at…and the answer, why not…who else better than someone on the inside!

The Week

The Week

THE WEEK, direct from Brazil, saw FIRE return to form with a packed and up for it crowd out for one thing…fun! It was a rather mixed crowd in terms of quality…from Hot Brazilian studs to the dosed up Vauxhall trash…but it all seemed to merge perfectly into a crowd all out for a good time. Steve Pitron & Mikey D mixed a turbo charged sounding but very appropriate mix for the main room which looked absolutely stunning with pieces of art hanging from the ceiling, lasers , fantastic led wall (very Oliver M aka when he was in control of Matinee)…yes, the new main room at Fire was looking stunning!

The gogos were very good too, especially Mr White Shorts (see video), Edson Costa (who is usually behind the camera and not in front of it) and Rikardo Machio (search him on FaceBook). There was another one who was a little too girly and posy for my taste…at least these were men gogos being men and not dressed in ridiculous high heels and girly costumes which seem to infiltrate the London scene as response to the Spanish invasion of clubs. Bring back the hunks!

My room, the Latin Lounge as I called it, rocked longer than expected to a mix of percussive, progressive and tribal house…in the very NO AMERICAN way….but the call of Beyond sonn empties most of Fire by 5.30ish in the morning. Djing from 3.00 meant I missed the Brazilian carnival show which was typical of such show..tits, feather and hot near naked muscle boys!

The Mirror Arch, usually the centre of attention suffered at the hands of super star DJs Pitron/Mikey D on the main floor and the new lighting/laser/layout…but it still had its dedicated followers.

Disco Matt was in full form on the dance floor reviewing and grooving….you can  read his review too at http://discomatt.blogspot.com

Anyway..enough of words…check out my video I made for SeenQueen.com below or see the pics at http://seenqueen.com/web/2010/10/club-pix-the-week-18-9-2010/

Barcode Soho- Saturday Night Viral

Barcode Soho is one of the clubs/bars I work at regularly on a Saturday night about once a month. My next gig is Saturday 16th October from 10-1 in the downstairs club. I generally play a mish mash of genres from NuFunk House, chunky house, some Latin and at times good remixes of more commercial tunes by the likes of Beyonce or even Lady GaGa.

The bar has a laid back vibe and attracts aa good mix of guys form the muscle bound to the more down to earth. Being in Soho you also get the secretaries and off work gay guys…there is often funny tales of off beat request for RnB in the middle of a house set; but I do not expect these pedestrian gays and their friends to know better it often ends up on my Facebook status early in the morning as a funny anecdote of yet another inappropriate request.

Saying that there is enough eye candy to even dissolve the most inappropriate requests.

Closing at 1am, the club/bar is the perfect place to start a night of clubbing or to have an early night where one can wake up on Sunday without a hangover. The music I play needs to reflect this balance between those who are out for a drink and those who are out to party, henceforth the eclectic mix of tunes from the underground to the overground that you will hear at this bar.

The video viral you see was made by Andrew Harris, one of London’s better graphic artists.
